Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts Presents AN EVENING WITH ELAYNE BOOSLER

All after show Tails of Joy merchandise will benefit Florida Boxer Rescue.

Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts announces a night of laughter and conversation with comedian, writer and animal activist Elayne Boosler. Named one of Comedy Central’s “Greatest 100 Standup Comedians of All Time,” Boosler will bring her thoughtful, feisty and socially-conscious humor to the Alexis & Jim Pugh Theater on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the performance are on sale to the general public now. Tickets are $35.00 and may be purchased online at drphillipscenter.org, by calling 844.513.2014 or by visiting the Dr. Phillips Center Box Office at 445 S. Magnolia Avenue, Orlando, FL 32801 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, or 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday. Online and phone ticket purchases are subject to handling fees.

For over 40 years, Boosler has appeared on seemingly every talk show ever on television, has written and starred in five of her own one-hour Showtime standup comedy specials, written and directed two movies for Cinemax, appeared regularly on HBO’s “Comic Relief,” on “Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher” over 30 times and has hosted specials, series and events live and on television.

In 1985, when the cable networks would not let a female standup have a special, she financed her own comedy special, “Party of One.” The success of that show is widely credited for blowing open the gates of television for female comedians. She recently spent several years as the permanent guest host on Stephanie Miller’s syndicated radio show and hosted the game show “Balderdash” for NBC from 2005-2006. Last year, she hosted the television show, “Gotham Comedy Live” on AXS-TV. She has done standup around the world from Las Vegas to colleges, the London Palladium to the White House Press Correspondent’s Dinner for President Clinton, to clubs and theaters everywhere. She has performed for the Queen of England as well as the President and Congress at Ford’s Theater. She moderated the Democratic Presidential Candidates Debate on C-Span for NOW. In 2013, she was commissioned by the Glendale Symphony Orchestra to write a performance piece for spoken word/orchestra, “Rescue – A True Story,” for piano, cello, clarinet and comedian. She has since performed this beautiful story of the life of a rescued dog with several symphony orchestras. She has written for television, print and film, and you can find a current body of her work at the Huffington Post.

For years, she has done television and radio baseball color commentary, sports shows and panels, and sung the National Anthem and/or thrown out a first pitch many times for many teams. She has done untold numbers of baseball benefits and Legends games for worthy causes, and she played Dodger Stadium for part of Hollywood Stars Day. This year, she will be featured in CNN’s eight-part documentary series, “The History of Standup Comedy.”

Boosler has toured Africa and the Middle East for our troops, and this past December, performed throughout Israel as part of “Comedy for Koby,” a fundraising tour for war orphans throughout the region.

Boosler has been involved in hands-on animal rescue and advocacy since 1996. In 2001, she founded and continues to run her own nationwide-and-beyond, all-species animal rescue and advocacy non-profit organization, Elayne Boosler’s Tails of Joy (tailsofjoy.net). The organization has saved thousands of animals, made life better for thousands more and continues to advocate for the better treatment of all animals throughout the world.
